How to sell on Facebook Marketplace and Make Money Immediately

If you’re-sale anything, or have anything you want to sell and have not used Facebook Marketplace yet, don’t procrastinate another minute. I have been flipping items and selling online since the early eBay years, I have never experienced any platform with the response rate of Facebook Marketplace.
Honestly, the first time I used it was only about 3 months ago, but during that time we have sold over 10,000 worth of items we no longer needed from our office and our home. At the time of this writing, we literally have sold every single one of them over 200 items my staff and I listed.
If you are not familiar with Facebook marketplace I hope this article and video I recently found online gives you a great overview and inspires you to get something listed over the next 24 hours.
Facebook has a built-in marketplace where you can buy and sell things and, in this article. I wanted to show you how you could sell something on the platform. So, if you’re familiar with websites like eBay or Craigslist. It kind of works the same way, but those that are utilizing it tell me they are getting better results selling on Facebook Marketplace than they ever did on Craigslist or eBay.
I had an item on eBay, I put it on the market place and it sold faster on the marketplace than it did on eBay. And there are no fees because you’re dealing with people like you do on Craigslist, so you don’t have to pay the fee that eBay charges you if you sell something on their platform.
So, I started to wonder if novelty items like I had sold on eBay in the past would sell on Facebook Marketplace. I understand why appliances, furniture, and other basic household items sell and sell quickly, but what about weird novelty items?
This is the actual item I tested this theory with.
So, in the video at the top of this page, I’ll show you how to list it and then I’ll show you how to post it.
The steps are simple:
1. Go to Facebook Marketplace
The Facebook marketplace has a link right here on the side, or you could just go to facebook.com/marketplace.
So, to buy anything you see on Facebook Marketplace, like the Macbook towers in the video above, you simply contact the person selling the item through Facebook messenger.
When you sell something, it’s basically the same process. So, you could be on their buying or selling, or you could click this link. This is what I’m going to do. I’m going to sell something and I’m going to have an item for sale. You could also sell a car here. Sell something simple. Right now, this is the box for selling something.
2. Click the Box to Sell an Item
3. Choose a Category for the Item
4. Type in the Description
5. Put in the Location of the Item
If you want to you can look up the item and see what comps have sold for, or if any have sold on Facebook Marketplace. You could also look it up to get an idea of the price. Typically, the Desk Globe sells for $21 new. I’m just going to sell mine for $9 here and I’m going to put my location here. You could describe your item. or insert a link that goes to a description.
6. Add a Description of the Item
I actually have a link to that item here so I could go ahead and take that description from here. This is a very useful tip, you can basically borrow the description from a listing on eBay, Amazon, or the manufacturer’s website.
I’ll just go ahead and take the name of it and I’m going to minimize this and I’m going to put it over here and then it says add photos.
7. Add Photos of the item you have for sell
I took some pictures with my phone there on my desktop here. So, this is what it actually looks like. I took about four pictures, but you could have up to 10 so I’ll select all these all press open and then it will upload those. It says I could have six plus more here and once they’re uploaded, I could edit the pictures if I wanted to, just like you would with any Facebook pictures. You can move them around and sort them the way you wanted them to be sorted and that’s it.
8. Post It
Next, you just have to press the post and just like that it’s been posted and once it’s sold, it will move over to the sold column. You could still go ahead and manage and edit this post if you don’t like what you put here anytime and once you sell it because Facebook actually doesn’t know that it’s been sold because it happens in person. You will have to press the mark as sold.
9. Once You Have a Verbal Agreement Mark the Item as Pending. After You Collect the Money, Mark it as Sold.
If you don’t follow step 9, you will have people constantly contacting you wanting to know if the item is still available, trust me!
To mark the item sold, you simply go underselling, you’ll see everything you have on there for sale and under buying, you’ll see everything that you are initiating to buy with a buyer and under browse, you could still go and see everything near you.
You could change the mile radius. You could change the location, you could shop by category, by price. It’s really a great way to buy things nearby. On a mobile device, the marketplace actually has an icon right in the middle on the bottom. So right in the center, if I press that I go to the marketplace is basically the same marketplace that you saw on the desktop. But on the mobile app, it just has slightly different navigation to it.
But the selling process is not that different. So, when you’re on the marketplace here, right next to your profile picture, it says, what are you listening to? If you click there, that’s how you list an item on the mobile app. I’m on an iOS app here and I’ll press items for sale right here.
So, the same process I just went through again, what are you selling? So, you put a description, price category, and then you could have a location and then if you want to ship it, it says, offer shipping for this item. So, you could do that.
You don’t have to actually meet with someone in person with the mobile app. You could actually ship it that way and then you could add pictures just the way you did. So I could just add the picture just like I did on the desktop and right there I could add multiple pictures and it’ll show up just like that and let me just put test here just to show you, I’m not going to actually post this one and you press next and then it will say, do you want to share it publicly on the marketplace, on your profile?
In this case, I’m just going to press the marketplace. And then you could just press post and that’s all you have to do to post that item. So, to check the progress, all you have to do is go to the store again. So, on the same page and on top, there is this icon that says you. If I click that, it shows all the items that I’m selling and I actually got a couple of messages and it has 17 views already.
I let a couple of minutes go by before I recorded this section of the video, but 17 views, two offers, and they both agreed to come to pick it up. So, whoever offered it to me first, I’m going to go ahead and make the sale with them, but that’s where you could see what items you’re selling or buying right here on the mobile app.
And then the messages came from the messenger app. So, when I clicked them, he took me over to messenger. So, this sale actually completely just took a few minutes ago. I had this on eBay for actually 10 days and I didn’t get a single offer. Only six views.
This got 17 views, two offers within basically less than five minutes. I hope this article and the above video were helpful and you can sell something really quick here on Facebook marketplace.
