How to Save Money on Baby Diapers

The first thing you need to do is to study a diaper chart and attempt to get an idea of how many diapers your child will use and bulk buy to make sure to take advantage of all rebates, coupons, and free diaper offers that are available to you.

How many of each diaper size should you stock up on?

Just as each of us is an individual, so will your baby be. What will work for one family will not necessarily work for yours so please don’t expect this to be a perfect guide for your baby.

This is a guideline that many new parents can use, it is not an exact blueprint. If you end up with more diapers than you need, you can easily sell the sizes your child grows out of on eBay or Facebook MarketPlace.

This is the exact plan my brother and his wife used for my niece. After she was officially potty trained they had a few extra sizes 1 and size 2. They sold them quickly and easily on Facebook MarketPlace. Many parents who get overstocked on diapers, immediately sell the excess of a size to create cash to stock up on the next size.

Newborns will use 8-10 diapers a day (some more, some less). As they get older and begin sleeping through the night, it will go down to 5-8 diapers a day. Since formula-fed babies are expected to gain weight faster than breastfed babies, we will use that as the basis for our plan.

Obviously, this is a personal choice and we are not promoting one way or another, we just need to choose one to use as our baseline numbers. Whatever works for you and your baby is the best way for your family.

All packs refer to jumbo packs

  • Newborn: 2-3 packs
  • Size 1: 30 packs
  • Size 2: 15 packs
  • Size 3: 30 packs
  • Size 4: 46 packs
  • Size 5:  45 packs

I know that settling for buying jumbo packs of diapers is not the best answer for saving the most amount of money on diapers. However, we hope this gives you a guideline of how many diapers you can plan on needing during your baby’s first couple of years.

Baby Diapers Size 1

Babies grow fastest during the first four months, often 2 lbs a month.  Assuming a starting weight of 6 lbs they will be in Size 1 diapers for 4 months.

4 months x 30 days x 10 diapers a day= 1,200 diapers of Size 1.  Assuming that there is an average of 40 diapers per jumbo pack that is 30 jumbo packs.

However, always check diapers. We are always shocked at how many times with a coupon the small diaper pack is cheaper than the jumbo packs from Big Box stores.

Baby Diapers Size 2

Size 2 overlaps size 3 by several pounds.  As you can see above we suggest you plan on 15 jumbo packs of size 2.

Baby Diapers Size 3

Normally, your baby’s growth will slow to about 1-1.5 lbs a month. So, your size 3 diapers could last for about 8- 12 months. Diaper usage often decreases to 5-8 diapers a day during this time. We’re going middle of the road projecting using 6 diapers a day and estimating using size 3 for 8 months.

8 months x 30 days x 6 diapers a day= 1,440 diapers.

Assuming an average of 36 diapers in a jumbo pack that would equal 40 jumbo packs.

Baby Diapers Size 4

Based on average baby sizes- we’re basing size 4 also be used from 12 – 18 months and 6 diaper changes a day.  That means for the 6 months they are in this size that they will go through 1,080 diapers. With an average of 23 diapers that is 46 pks of jumbo diapers.

Baby Diapers Size 5

Based on an average of babies being in this size from 18 – 24 months and an average of 5 diapers a day that is 900 diapers. With an average of 20 diapers per jumbo pack, that means we’ll use 45 packages of diapers.

You may want to save this page so you can refer to this blueprint as needed.

  • Newborn: 2-3 packs
  • Size 1: 30 packs
  • Size 2: 15 packs
  • Size 3: 30 packs
  • Size 4: 46 packs
  • Size 5: 45 packs

When you start adding everything up, you are probably thinking: that is over 175 jumbo packs of diapers at $10 a package that totals $1,750.00.

However, since you are reading this article, paying full price for diapers is probably the last thing on your mind.  You are not planning on paying full retail, are you?

In today’s environment, we believe that 14 cents a diaper or less is an achievable goal.  Is that always possible- no but that is the goal.  A few things you must consider

  • How much storage room do you have?  Having 80 packs of diapers can take up a lot of room! Start with size 1 and work your way up. Your baby will be needing diapers continuously. Before devising a stockpiling diapers plan, you must consider the amount of storage room you have.
  • Do you have a plan for extra diapers you don’t need or can’t make work because of storage challenges?
  • If you keep the receipts, you can see if the store will allow you to trade for a different size. We suggest that you tape your receipts on the outside of your packages. Some stores like Target allow you to return items for up to one year.

When you are a new parent, the very moment you realize the cost of diapers can put you in a state of shock. How could those little poop-catchers be so expensive?

Sometimes, new parents feel diapers are an out-of-control money drainer on their budget. That notwithstanding, families still have to buy them. The thing about diapers is that they are expensive and your child will go through them at the speed of light.

If you are a new parent, this might be something that you don’t know quite how to prepare for. We hope the outline above gives you real value. Comparing the various necessities that your baby needs, such as food, toys, and clothing; baby diapers are one of the most expensive ongoing expenses that every parent invests in their baby. Obviously, diapers are needed to ensure your baby’s health and cleanliness.

Diapers are one of the products that are never going away. They have been around for years and are going to be around for years to come. Although diapers are costly and they are something that you will have to buy over and over again, many cheap brands of diapers are in the market, the problem with them is that they don’t hold up and have leakage challenges.

Do you really have to settle for those cheap diapers? You don’t have to settle for off-brand diapers that could irritate your baby’s skin.

Becoming a new parent is one of the best feelings in the world. There is nothing that is quite like it. But on the flip side, it can become very expensive for families on a tight budget.

Free Diapers for Your Baby

There are a lot of ways to save money on your baby’s diapers. Surprisingly, free diapers are available for all age babies, especially newborns. Diaper companies want you to choose their brand over other diaper manufactures. When it comes to getting the diapers that your child needs, every bit of information helps. Getting free diapers is very possible, although, most people have never given the thought of actually obtaining free diapers.

Many companies in the market give away diapers for free. Some companies give diapers away for deep discounts. But the question is, why would companies give away diapers, completely free?

Well, giving something away to people who need them is a public service and a helpful act that improves the image of the company. The more they give away, the more people test out the diapers and give them great reviews, that they work effectively. Obviously, they are hoping to create loyalty to their brand.

Don’t worry, there are plenty of options to make purchasing diapers as painless as possible.

CLOTH DIAPERS

A lot of people tend to shy away from cloth diapers obviously because of the mess. Cloth diapers are by far the cheapest option available. You buy them once and then wash them, but sometimes the unwanted annoyance outweighs the cost. Considering cloth diapers are not for everyone, but a diaper option you may want to consider.

BUY DIAPERS IN BULK AT BIG BOX STORES

The next major step in savings is buying diapers in bulk. There are times when a smaller package of diapers is less expensive than larger packages you buy at Sam’s Club, Costco, and other big-box membership retailers.  So even if you see small packages of diapers advertised on sale at your local drug store, make sure to calculate your cost per diaper cost.

The secondary benefit of buying in bulk is the gas savings when going out to purchase them. Although, many people underestimate secondary savings when buying goods. The amount we save by buying in bulk, along with savings on gas and wear and tear on the car, is not insignificant.

10 HACKS TO SAVE MONEY ON GASOLINE

The use of different types of diapers for different times of the day is a nifty little strategy to save money you may not have thought of. For example, you may want to use the higher quality, more expensive diapers at night.

The odds are you won’t have problems with leakage. But during the day, you can buy cheaper diapers where you’ll be available to change them on a more regular basis. Using the less expensive diapers in the day could save you up to 70 percent on your overall diaper purchase.

There are many ways to get the diapers that you need. You don’t have to go through dozens of trial baby diaper offers, but in actuality, all you need to do is to ASK.

Many websites are geared towards getting you the diapers that you need. Most major diaper brands have loyalty programs that help you earn gift cards, free diapers, wipes, and other gifts, just for entering codes into a website or app. You’ll probably also get access to coupons and other special offers that can save you additional money.

When you are getting free diapers from a company, you are testing what they have to offer. When it comes to marketing, they do believe that the more exposure that you have to their brand, the better the chance you will remain a customer.

They are also hoping that you will spread their name through word of mouth to friends getting something free to create a positive attitude toward the company.

Word of mouth is the best advertising a company can have. Diaper companies understand that & usually give their goods for free to customers as a means of publicizing their products and creating that word-of-mouth advertising.

They predict that once purchasers test out the free diapers, it will enhance loyalty which will end in more product sales. Many brand-name diaper manufacturers are no exception. It is very easy to get diapers for your baby from these companies. All you have to do to get diapers for your little one is to enter your email address and your child’s date of birth. Some diaper manufacturers mail out free diapers to help consumers decide which diaper brand to choose in the future.
